Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts Makeup Palette

Jan 23, 2017

I have been feeling sickly today but I wanted to get this post up for you today because I have been promising it ever since I got the palette.
I got the Queen of Hearts palette as a late Christmas present, from my lovely boyfriend as he knew I really wanted it. It is a gorgeous warm toned palette with a mix of taupes and true purples, something to cool the palette down.

The colours remind some of the ABH Modern Renaissance palette, but I only see a few similarities between the two. The contain a similar colour scheme but are definitely not the same, I might do a comparison soon.
Coloured Raine is an indie brand based in America, it is cruelty free and has mostly vegan shades. I love indie brands because they often have to work harder on their formula, so that they can compete with other bigger and mainstream brands. The palette is called Queen of Hearts and contains royal names, like royal highness, heir, crown, dethrone...
Even though it is made out of cardboard it is sturdy. It is shut together by a magnetic closure, contains a mirror and 12 different shades, 6 mattes and 6 shimmers or foiled shadows. Each pan contains 1,5 grams of eyeshadow, making the total weight of the eyeshadows 18g.
The palette costs 50$, which makes it out to 2,77$ per gram, quite a nice price for a palette. It also comes to about 4,16$ per shadow which is an amazing price. I did have to pay customs and international shipping (well my boyfriend did) so it was more expensive but still an ok price for what you get.
It is also limited edition so if you are thinking about it, just get it.

I love the sleeve, the only thing I wish is that the actual palette was the same. The palette itself is quite plain and it can get dirty quite easily, much like Nars packaging except that is plastic and here we have cardboard. It is still beautiful, very sleek even though it is plain.

All of the shades are amazing, colour wise and also formula wise, except one. Ladyship is the shade that fails completely, compared to the others. It is an ok shade and formula but it is lacking in pigmentation compared to other shades. It is also not as soft and blendable as the other shades.

My favourites are definitely the foiled shadows, they are smooth, creamy and blendable. They are a bit harder to pick up, at least when you really want to pack them on, I use a stiffer flat brush for that. They are still nice when picked up with a blending brush, just not as foiled as with a flat brush. They do produce a lot of fall out so I apply my eye makeup before my face makeup.

The mattes are also amazing, highly pigmented and finely mild. They don't produce much kick up or fall out, unlike the foiled eyeshadows but that is due to the difference in creaminess.

  • Crown
This shade is amazing. It is a white shimmer shade that is perfect for my inner corner highlight. It is creamy and extremely pigmented. The sheen is golden and even though it is opaque it is very blendable.
  • Heir
Heir is an amazing transition shade, great for blending colours together. It is matte and quite pigmented, really finely mild so it is nit chalky at all. Sometimes that is a big problem with matte shades, but this formula is amazing. It is a soft peachy colour with warm undertones. It has a good colour payoff, but it has to be built up.
  • Royal Highness
It is a taupe brown shade with a metallic sheen. It has a warm undertone but still pulls cool when blended out. All of the shimmer shades look quite chunky but they are so creamy when applied.
  • Royal Prerogative
Royal prerogative is a medium brown colour with a warm undertone and a matte finish. It is soft but there is a bit of kick up when I try to apply it to my eye. It is opaque, even when blended with a blending brush.
  • Your Majesty
Your majesty is a copper shade with golden undertones. It is the same as Royal Highness, very creamy, so creamy that it almost feels like an actual cream product when applied. I prefer using stiff synthetic brushes with these types of formulas, because they pack on more colour but blending brushes are fine too.
  • Noblewoman
Noblewoman is a burgundy pink shade with a frosted shine. It has warm yellow/orange undertones and it is very opaque. Again it is the same consistency as all of the other foiled shadows. This is one of my favourite shades, it looks great paired with other colours and all on its own.
  • Ladyship
I have already complained about Ladyship, because compared to other shades it is not that good. It isn't terrible but it is patchier and less finely mild than the all of the rest. In the picture it does not look that nice, but it is actually a really pretty colour, a berry pink colour with cool undertones. It does work ok on the eye and it blends well but packed on it looks patchy.
  • Princess
Princess is a muted rose pink colour with warm undertones. It has a matte finish and it is very well pigmented and creamy. It blends well just like all of the other shades.

  • Duchess
I am sorry this shade is really washed out in the picture but it is actually a quite dark brown colour. It is a medium dark brown with warm undertones, soft and blendable.
  • Empress
This shade is nothing like all of the other oranges I own. It is a burnt orange colour with warm undertones and a matte finish.
  • Dethrone
Dethrone is a dark brown foiled shade with gold reflects and a metallic finish. It is exactly the same as all of the other foiled shadows, creamy and very opaque.
  • Queen Mother
Queen mother is a dark violet colour with golden specks of glitter. It works the same as all of the other foiled eyeshadows but this one seems a bit more pigmented. It is super creamy and it applies really well with a synthetic dense brush.

Here are all of the swatches

The Queen of Hearts is by far my favourite palette, it is even better than the MR palette. It has more variety and the formula of the shimmers is better in Queen of Hearts. The mattes are quite similar in texture and I love them both.
The colours work really well together, it is a very well thought out palette. Not only do the colours work well together but so do the formulas. The mattes are quite dry and the foiled shades are very creamy but they work together very nicely even though they are so different.

Here are some more pictures, I hope you enjoyed this post :)
